Marco Salmen, MD Candidate
Project Development Coordinator
Sustainable Technology & Design Director, Sisterhood Exchange Program Coordinator

Marco first visited Mfangano Island in 2008, and was inspired by the energy and passion that surrounded the community goal of constructing the Ekialo Kiona Center. He is happy that he has been able to add his knowledge and skills to the amazing local-global partnership ever since.

After graduating from Duke University in 2007, he was fortunate to spend part of the next year in Kenya and Central America, before beginning medical school at the University of Colorado, where he will remain for any foreseeable future.

As the Project Development Coordinator, Marco has enjoyed working to help acquire solar and computing equipment for the Ekialo Kiona Center, get the Ekialo Kiona crafts cooperative up and running, and develop a pilot research project on methods of personal treatment organization.
