Meet Pam...

EK's newly elected chairperson of the Sisterhood Exchange Program shares her story as an HIV+ woman living on Mfangano Island:
"Pam is one of the HIV+ living women in Mfangano Island. She was elected as the chairperson of the Sisterhood Exchange Program when it was incepted in 2010.
Pam was born in 1978 in a rural area of Kisumu District and is 32 years of age. She found out she was HIV+ through diagnostic testing (VCT). When she found out about her status, she became depressed because of the possible denial from her family. She was the only one found HIV+ in a family of six, that is to say, her husband and their four children are all HIV-. It was difficult for her to make a living on Mfangano Island because of mistrust, being ignored by the community and blames laid upon by the society which were too much for her and no one could give her any support.
But now she is happy to be part of the new tailoring department because she can now earn a living, get support and good care from other women who are also living positive. She is now happy and need more support from anybody willing to help/support through their program of Sisterhood Exchange Program."
